There is so much drama surrounding the release of The Rise of Skywalker. That this film was weak and many feel it was used to placate the fan base, who many call Fandom Menace.
Let’s rewind a little and talk about the travesty known as The Last Jedi. Hollywood, stop forcing Rian Johnson on us, please. I saw Knives Out. It was good, but not Oscar winning good. The Last Jedi did NOTHING to move the Star Wars saga forward. It was bland, it was boring. They were stuck on a ship the entire film. I never had a problem with Rose. I enjoyed her character, even if she was a bit annoying. I hated Leia’s “fly through space”. It was done so poorly! Rian Johnson should be embarrassed by his treatment of Luke. Instead of creating something great he created a piece of garbage, not because he created new ideas, but because he spit on the old. I’m not angry that a “nobody” can be force sensitive. Wasn’t that already established in The Phantom Menace? Anakin technically was a “nobody”. Wasn’t it also established in Rogue One, “I am one with the Force and the Force is one with me”? There were no Jedi in Rogue One, but the Force was being used. So no Mr. Johnson, your “new” idea, that anyone can be force sensitive wasn’t actually a new concept. Mary Freakin’ Leia Poppins and Luke Breast Milk Drinking Skywalker, now that was why your movie sucked.
I thought The Rise of Skywalker was a great film. It wasn’t without its flaws. Everyone is talking about what a waste of a character Leia was, how she was weak and the true Princess Leia wouldn’t be so passive. Guess what guys, Carrie Fisher passed away and therefore there was no real other way to finish out her arch. I loved Poe, Finn and Chewbacca. I loved Ben’s fight against the Knights of Ren and how Rey was able to hand over the Lightsaber to him. I liked that Rey was Palpatine’s granddaughter and that she was good. I hope they explore her parents at some point in time. The light speed jumping was amazing. I loved the final scene where she buried Luke and Leia’s lightsabers on Tatooine and that she named herself Skywalker. Yes, she could have kept her name Palpatine and that would have been fine too. I loved the cameos! Thank you Harrison Ford for giving us one last glimpse at Han Solo!
The movie wasn’t without its issue either. There weren’t any amazing Lightsaber battles. The one on the Death Star was ok. But it was nothing like the final battle between Anakin and Obi-Wan in Revenge of the Sith. That was by far the BEST Lightsaber battle in the entire Star Wars Saga. Even the Lightsaber battle in Snoke’s throne room was better than the battles in this film. The kiss was awkward. It wasn’t romantic, it was weird.
Overall, I thought the movie was a great way to “end” the Saga. I honestly don’t think this is the end. I know we have some more amazing things to see. By the way The Mandalorian is AMAZING and I think The Child is a Sith. The Force is telling me this is true.
